Everyone, from babies to adults have motivation - when you’re hungry, you’re motivated to get something to eat. Motivation is goal oriented behaviour involving the desire to achieve a goal, combined with the energy required to work towards achieving it.
Student motivation is usually mixed: some is extrinsic, to do with external factors of gaining qualifications and recognition whist some is intrinsic, to do with the inherent pleasure, interest and delight of learning. However all students will struggle with their motivation during their schooling life, especially when there is a lack of interest in the task at hand or there is too many other things to do.
