treAt Your Brain
Your brain is very sensitive and constantly needs to repair itself and build new connections between the cells as you learn new things. To do this, it needs top class nutrition, a steady supply of energy, a steady supply of oxygen, and time asleep to do all its updating.
So here's how to send your brain to the spa:

food
1. For general brain health, eat a balanced diet, consisting of plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables. Try to incorporate the 5 super brain foods in your diet. For more info on super foods and healthy snacking for students visit HERE.
2. Your brain needs a steady supply of energy in the form of glucose. Glucose is found in slow-releasing carbohydrates such as wholemeal breads, pastas, porridge and pulses. Chocolate, biscuits and other sugary snacks are sadly not good for your brain but are alright in moderation as a treat.
3. Your brain needs lots of oxygen. This is easily found in exercise and a sufficient supply of iron in your bloodstream. This iron comes from foods such as red meat, green leafy vegetables like spinach, dried fruit, fortified cereals, and pulses, including baked beans.
4. Don't skip breakfast (or lunch) – especially before an exam. Your brain will perform less well if you haven't eaten for hours. Brain scientists have shown that a student's test results are lower when they haven't eaten.
5. And Drink lots of water- 6-8 glasses of water per day! Dehydration can dramatically affect your brain's performance.

exercise
Your brain and body needs exercise. By exercising you are pumping the oxygen-rich blood it needs through every capillary. Studies show that exercise improves your memory capacity – and lack of it will make your brain age prematurely. So put on those sneakers and get jogging! Your brain will thank you.
sleep
Sleeping is possibly the quickest and easiest way for your brain to rest and repair itself and consolidate all the day's new learning. Even an hour less sleep can affect your test scores the next day. So try to receive at least 8 hours of sleep.
